A few days ago my family hadour very first real beach vacation. It was absolutely amazing, but I’m not going to lie, travelling across state with two toddlers is trying. The kids were overwhelmed with things going on, my husband and I were overwhelmed with chasing them around and bedtimes were pretty much a disaster (have you ever tried to to put two toddlers to bed in the same strange room? I do NOT recommend it. But all stress aside, it was magical. We had all kinds of fun playing on the beach, hanging out in our suite overlooking the ocean, and we even got to see some amazing attractions (more on that in another post). But we also ran into some pretty bad weather that forced us inside for a day. I had to get creative and come up with something that would lift my littles spirits and keep boredom at bay so I made a quick store run and came back armed with Pop Secretpopcorn, some movies and a few yummy toppings and we settled in for a fun and cozy family movie afternoon in our hotel living room.
Now, in any family there is always that *one* person who is never allowed to pop the popcorn – that person is my husband. I love the man, but he cannot successfully pop a bag of popcorn to save his life. I normally take on that task, but this time I was busy getting the kids into their jammies (Yes, we watch movies in jammies. In the middle of the day. You don’t?) SoI decided to let him try it usingPop Secret’s new Perfect Pop app that claims to be a foolproof popcorn popping helper for those a little *ahem* challenged in that area. Basically you set your microwave to the suggested cooking time on thepackage, turn the volume up on your phone, set it beside the microwave and then turn them both on. It “listens” to the time between each pop and alerts you when you need to stop popping. Genius, eh? You can even tell it what size popcorn bag you are popping so it can adjust it’s super smart detection tool.
And this is what he got using the app. Fabulous, right?
So afterI picked my jaw up off the floor when hepresented me with twoperfect bags of popcorn I poured one in a bowl for thekids and then whipped up a batch of deliciously sweet yet light Rainbow Butterscotch popcorn with the other one. I had never really added anything to my popcorn before, but I have seen all kinds of recipes for it in any flavor I could think of so I decided to give it a try. I absolutely love butterscotch, so while I was at the store I grabbed a bag of butterscotch morsels, some chocolate coating and sprinkles to top my popcorn with. Guess what? It was AMAZING!!
Butterscotch Funfetti Popcorn
I know I usually say that most of my recipes are super easy, but I’m pretty sure that this one is the easiest of all. By far. And it is pretty much idiot proof, so even the designated popcorn burner can whip it up with ease. Here’s what you need:
- 1 bag of popped popcorn – basic butter or plain is fine but don’t go overboard – too much butter will ruin the taste here.
- 1/2 cup butterscotch morsels
- chocolate quick coating (found beside the ice cream cones)
- rainbow sprinkles
Start by popping some popcorn using the Perfect Pop app so you don’t burn it and then set aside. Next, melt your butterscotch in the microwave at 70% power for around a minute and 30 seconds(more or less depending on your microwave). Pour it over your popcorn in swirls and let it harden. Next, shake up your chocolate quick coating and pour over the popcorn in a generous amount. Shake on a ton of sprinkles and you are finished!
Wasn’t that super easy? We had a super fun and relaxing movie day in the middle of our busy beach vacation, and everyone loved it!
