A freshman is a student who has earned no college credits after high school graduation. Military school credit typically does not constitute as college credit if it is not taken at a college or university. If you have any questions about military credit, please schedule an appointment with a Military Admissions Counselor.

If you earned college credit after high school, you will be considered a transfer student.

Important notes:
- Each year we receive more than 50,000 freshman applicants. Your high school rank, GPA, coursework and grades will all be considered in our freshman admission process. To discuss competitive admission credentials,schedule an appointment with a Military Admission Counselor

If you have any college credit, you would be considered a transfer student. (Military schools that you do not receive a transcript with grades do not count.)

Important things to consider:
- You must have at least 24 hours of graded, transferable coursework.
- A minimum of 2.5 GPA is required for admission consideration. Most majors have higher GPA requirements.
- Each major has specific course requirements for admission.
- Summer coursework grades will not be considered for fall applicants.
- Fall coursework grades will not be considered for spring applicants.
- Some majors will consider spring grades for fall admission.
- Did you have a rough college start 10 years ago or longer? If so, an Academic Fresh Start might be an option.

Make an appointment with one of our Military Admissions Counselorsto come up with an admissions plan. Make sure to send copies of unofficial transcripts to the counselor before the appointment (more information about this will be sent to you when you schedule the appointment).

To be considered for transfer admission to Texas A&M, you must have at least a 2.5 GPA on a minimum of 24 hours of graded, transferable coursework. Applicants should review information on the Transfer Course Sheets to determine specific coursework preferred by each major/department. Most majors will require pre-requisites to be completed before applying to the university. Military credit is not used for admission purposes.

Defer Admission Start Date for Basic Training and MOS School

Please be aware of the following information regarding a request to defer:

• You must be a fully admitted student to Texas A&M University at College Station.
• Other pathways to admission are not eligible to defer, such as PSA, Blinn Team, Engineering at Blinn, Gateway, Galveston, McAllen and others. Please contact the military admissions department if you have questions regarding pathways to admission.
• An admission can be deferred for one semester only, i.e., Fall to Spring or Spring to Fall.

To defer your admission, please complete and sign the form and return it, along with a copy of your orders, to Military Admissions atmilitaryadmission@tamu.edu. If the deferral is for the Fall semester, the deferral will not be acted on until August to allow for any changes to dates by the military. We must have the form and orders on file to grant the request to defer your admission.

Withdrawal Process To Accommodate Texas A&M University Students Called to Active Military Service

Before deciding to withdraw, please take the time to read through the directions on theform and discuss it with your Academic Advisor. If you are only going to be gone a week or so, it’s best to try to work something out with your department and not withdraw.
